I am researching my maternal surname, Gelpi. In my wanderings and wonderings, I have found variations on this name that now lead me to believe this name is not Catala originally. It may have been something else, and then underwent catalanization or hispanisation.

I have seen this surname, in several permutations, all the way from Belarus and Vilna down to Holland and France, to Spain, and Portugal, and in the Americas, with a high concentration of what I think are French Gelpis in the Louisiana (USA) area, but going from the Caribbean to Brazil, down to Argentina and Chile. We literally cover the globe. PLEASE, any info will be greatly appreciated!!
Maternal surnames: Gelpí, Lebrón, Ruiz, Vientos, Mendez, Jardines, Marty, Cintra, Crisostomos, Orta, Perez, Torres
Paternal surnames: Ramírez, Jiménez/Gimenes, Rodríguez, López, Pagán, Jacome, Rivera, del Toro, Figueroa, Carlo

Paternal mtDNA: A2k1
gedMatch ID: FN105290
