This thread continues with the discussion on this topic from DNA-forums.
Post your here if you are mtDNA haplogroup C from south Asia, or have new information/ articles etc.

There have been some new FMS sequences rolling into GenBank for C4a1.

So far, all samples classified C4a1 and subgroup, have the mutation 16129A(when compared to CRS), except mine
Here are results from James' mthap tool. Does it look like the 16129A in mine probably back mutated?

Mine:
1) C4a1

Defining Markers for haplogroup C4a1:

Marker path from rCRS to haplogroup C4a1 (plus extra markers):
H2a2a1(rCRS) ⇨ ...... ⇨ C4a1'5 ⇨ 1715T 15968C (16093C) ⇨ C4a1 ⇨ 195C (309.1C) (315.1C) (16519C)

Good Match! Your results also had extra markers for this haplogroup:
Mismatches(0): (16093T)
Extras(1): 195C (309.1C) (315.1C) (16519C)

Two new samples from the paper "The history of slavs inferred from complete mitochondrial genome sequences" have shown up as matches. The closest one is UKR150, which I assume is Ukrainian.
This sample matches mine except for G16129A. Does anyone know what the mutation rate is for this marker?
Here is the latest distance tree (samples in red are mine):

Cataloging samples of mtDNA haplogroup C in South India,
Here is a paper back from 2003, that lists 3% mtDNA haplogroup C (see table 3). It is not exactly clear from the paper as to which population(s) carry this, but from other people it seems like the Kattunaicken tribals from Kerala/Karnataka/Tamilnadu border.
