I have wondered about this for some time now. An individual that I know of is in possession on a wax seal that was used to seal a muster roll that belonged to one of his male line ancestors. The seal is that of a cadet of the House of Eglinton of the Montgomery family. The seal apparently shows no different marks that would distinguish other branches of the Montgomery family. So given the fact that his ancestor used this wax seal with the coat of arms on it would that indicate that his ancestor certainly came from the House of Eglinton branch of the Montgomery family and that he would have been part of the Scottish nobility?
